Abstract

Un-Hee Kim is a Korean poetess, and she is not famous but sensational in our time. When I read her poems recently, I was shocked by her sado-masochistic, sexually deviated, incestuous, necrophilic expression of cruelty and rage, aggression, hostility. I feel that she attempts to revenge toward her father and all men unknown to her. Kim¡¯s poetry reveals vividly the incest and cruelty. She confessed that she feels to have a penis, and take a man inside her body. This means that she has an unresolved oedipal issue and strong penis envy, and she tries to deny it within her poems. Our new millenium is very paradoxical and ironical in some points because we meet a terrible nihilistic poet at new benevolent age. I don¡¯t know her personally, but heard to her character as a very shy and introvert, polite woman. This duality and disharmony between her reality and works was more interested to me. I think that the poet¡¯s role in our time is dying very slowly because the many artists get off their mission to build up the human spirit¡¯s upgrading and integration.
